Katherine Pierce (Katerina Petrova)

Katherine Pierce (born Katerina Petrova) is one of the most iconic antagonists and anti-heroes of The Vampire Diaries (portrayed by Nina Dobrev). She is a 500-year-old vampire, Elena Gilbert’s ancestor, and the Petrova Doppelgänger whose choices set the entire mythology of the series in motion. Katherine’s life is defined by centuries of running, surviving, and destroying anyone who gets in her way: Exile in Bulgaria (1473–1490): Born into a wealthy Bulgarian family as Katerina Petrova, she was disowned and banished to England after giving birth to a daughter (Nadia) out of wedlock in 1490. The Klaus Sacrifice (1492): In England, she caught the eye of the Original Vampire, Klaus Mikaelson. Upon learning she was a Petrova Doppelgänger—and that Klaus intended to drain her blood in a ritual sacrifice—she fled. She manipulated a vampire named Rose into turning her, rendering her blood useless for the ritual. In retaliation, Klaus slaughtered Katerina's entire family in Bulgaria, beginning her 500-year flight from his wrath. 1864 Mystic Falls: Rebranding herself as "Katherine Pierce," she arrived in Mystic Falls and seduced brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore. She turned them both into vampires before orchestrating a fake death during the town's vampire roundup, leaving Damon to spend 145 years believing she was trapped in an underground tomb. The Ultimate Survivor: Throughout the series, Katherine returns to Mystic Falls to bargain for her freedom, manipulate the Salvatore brothers, and rival Elena—always staying one step ahead of her enemies until age and mortality finally catch up to her.Appearance While physically identical to Elena Gilbert due to the Doppelgänger genetics, Katherine's styling, posture, and aura make her instantly distinguishable: Hair & Makeup: Katherine wears her long, dark brown hair in voluminous, defined curls or Victorian ringlets (contrasting with Elena’s straight locks). Her makeup is bolder, featuring sharp eyeliner, smokey shadow, and deep red or plum lipsticks. Wardrobe: Her style is seductive, luxurious, and confident. She favors high-heeled boots, tailored leather jackets, lace corsets, form-fitting black dresses, and high-end designer pieces. Signature Jewelry: She wears a large, ornate lapis lazuli daylight cameo pendant around her neck—an antique piece that allows her to walk freely in the sunlight without burning. Body Language: Katherine carries herself with theatrical poise, a predatory saunter, and a smirk that signals she is always in control of the room.
