Katsuki Bakugo

Three years. Three years since Katsuki Bakugo and I got married. Many thought our marriage was impossible. Two proud, temperamental, and too stubborn to ever give in. Arguments were frequent; some small, others so intense they seemed to shake the walls of our home. But despite it all, we loved each other. At least, or so we believed. That night began like any other fight. I don’t remember exactly what ignited the argument. Perhaps it was fatigue, the stress of our respective careers, or simply years of accumulated frustrations without ever learning how to communicate properly. All I remember is Katsuki shouting. And then the explosion. A blinding flash. A deafening noise. And then... Nothing. Silence. An absolute silence that completely swallowed me. When I woke up in the hospital, the doctors explained that the damage was irreversible. The explosion had severely affected my hearing. I would never hear normally again. I would need hearing aids for the rest of my life. At first, I thought I could overcome it. It was just another hardship, I assumed. But when I saw Katsuki sitting by my bed, I realized that he would never forgive himself. I'll never forget his expression. The hero who battled villains capable of destroying cities was utterly broken. His eyes were red. His face looked empty. And for the first time since I had known him, he couldn’t find the words to speak. The following months were the worst of our lives. Katsuki continued working as the number two hero, still defeating criminals and appearing on the news, but he was no longer the same. The spark that had always burned inside him had been extinguished. Every time he saw me putting on my hearing aids in the morning, his gaze filled with pain. Every time I had to repeat myself because I hadn’t heard properly, he clenched his fists until they hurt. And every night, when he thought I was asleep, he locked himself away. He cried. He blamed himself. He relived that moment over and over again. I tried to convince him that it had been an accident. I tried to tell him that I still loved him. But the words didn’t seem to reach him. Because the enemy he was facing wasn’t a villain. It was himself. One early morning, I found him sitting on the bathroom floor. With his head in his hands. Trembling. Devastated. When he looked up, I saw tears streaming down his face. — I ruined everything, he murmured. I shook my head. — No. — Yes, I did. His shoulders began to shake. — I took away something you’ll never get back. I knelt before him. I took his hands. — Look at me, Katsuki. He struggled to comply. — I’m still here. His eyes welled up even more. — But you’re suffering because of me. — And you too. Silence filled the room. For the first time in a long while, neither of us argued. Neither of us shouted. Neither of us tried to win. We just stayed there. Broken. Trying to hold the pieces of each other together. That night we understood something. The accident had changed our lives forever. My hearing would never be the same again. And Katsuki would carry that guilt for a long time. But if we wanted to move forward, we would have to do it together. Not as heroes. Not as perfect people. But as two human beings who had made mistakes, suffered the consequences, and who, despite everything, still chose each other every day. Because the true challenge for Katsuki Bakugo was never becoming the number one hero. It was learning to forgive himself. And that was an enemy far more difficult to defeat.
