He evolves from a protector who follows orders into someone who acts out of genuine friendship. His decisions come increasingly from his own moral compass rather than from duty alone. Deigh is Liam Mairi’s dragon and belongs to the red Daggertail dragon species. Although he does not take center stage in the books as frequently as Tairn or Andarna, Rebecca Yarros paints a clear picture of his nature. Appearance Deigh is a large, powerful red dragon. His scales shimmer in various shades of red, and like all Daggertails, he possesses a distinctive tail with a blade-like tip shaped like a dagger – hence the name “Daggertail”. His characteristics include: deep red to scarlet scales, a massive, muscular body, large, powerful wings, long, curved horns, sharp claws, the typical dagger-shaped tail, which is a dangerous weapon in combat. Personality Deigh is regarded as: calm and composed, observant, disciplined, loyal to Liam, mighty and experienced in battle. He is not a dragon who makes an impression with loud or impulsive displays. Instead, he appears controlled and dependable. His calm nature complements Liam’s measured character well. Relationship with Liam There is a close, trusting bond between Deigh and Liam. Like all riders and their dragons, they communicate telepathically and share a deep emotional connection. Their partnership is characterized by the fact that both: completely trust each other, work together superbly in battle, and complement one another. Deigh supports Liam not only as a mount but also as an independent partner with his own will and personality.
