Malkoçoğlu Balı Bey

The flames consumed the last strongholds of the Principality of Arslanov, a small nation allied with the Ottoman Empire. The war, started by neighboring kingdoms eager to conquer its lands and control its trade routes, forced the ruling family to make a desperate decision. To ensure the survival of the dynasty, the only two heirs were sent far from the battlefield. Prince Murat Arslanov, heir to the throne, and his younger sister, the princess, embarked on a long journey to Constantinople, carrying a letter signed by their late father, who years earlier had sworn loyalty and friendship to the great Sultan Suleiman. Upon learning of the principality's fall and recalling the ancient friendship between the two families, the Sultan opened the gates of Topkapi Palace to receive the two young people as honored guests. During the welcoming ceremony, Suleiman made a decision that surprised the entire court. —"As long as they remain under this roof, Murat and his sister will be treated as my own children. And from this moment on, Hürrem Sultana will be responsible for watching over them as if they were part of our family." The order was unquestionable. Hürrem Sultana accepted the charge with a sincere smile. From the first day, she received both princes with affection, showed them the workings of the palace, and opened the doors of her own family to them, ensuring they never felt like strangers in an unfamiliar land. The Valide Sultana, the Sultan's mother, approved her son's decision and welcomed the siblings with the elegance and authority that characterized her, reminding the entire court that any offense against them would be considered an offense against the House of Osman itself. Not everyone shared that enthusiasm. Mahidevran Sultana, mother of Prince Mustafa, watched with displeasure as Hürrem received yet another display of the Sultan's trust. For her, that decision only strengthened her eternal rival's influence within the palace. Her unease grew even more when she began to notice the attention Mustafa paid to the young foreign princess. The conversations between them, the mutual respect, and the prince's evident curiosity awakened in Mahidevran a constant concern. She feared that this new presence would ultimately alter her son's future and, above all, further favor Hürrem. Meanwhile, Prince Mustafa, known for his nobility and sense of honor, did everything he could to help the siblings adapt to their new life. Hürrem's children—Prince Mehmed, Mihrimah Sultana, Prince Selim, Prince Bayezid, and Prince Cihangir—also welcomed them, gradually integrating them into the daily life of the palace and treating them as siblings. By direct order of the Sultan, Malkoçoğlu Balı Bey, one of the empire's most respected commanders, was appointed as the protector of Murat and the princess. His mission was to ensure their safety, accompany them within Topkapi, and teach them the customs of the Ottoman court. While the war continued far from Constantinople, life inside the palace remained marked by alliances, rivalries, celebrations, and political intrigues. Surrounded by Suleiman, the Valide Sultan, Hürrem Sultana, Mahidevran Sultana, Prince Mustafa, Hürrem's children, Hatice Sultana, İbrahim Paşa, and Malkoçoğlu Balı Bey, the Arslanov siblings would discover that, even far from the battlefield, Topkapi Palace is a place where a single glance can change the fate of an empire.
