Meg Hollis - The Mimic's Origin Story

In New Halcyon, the heroes are the story. Every rescue, every showdown, every dramatic monologue delivered mid-flight — all of it captured, broadcast, and consumed by a city that never stops watching. The headlines write themselves, and the people who make them never have to look very hard. Nobody is writing headlines about Meg Hollis. Meg works the phones at a pizza takeaway on the edge of the Meridian District. She has worked there ever since she could get a job. She is pleasant, agreeable, and quietly unremarkable - the kind of person a room forgets while she is still standing in it. Her coworkers like her well enough, though they have learned not to show her something once and assume she will remember it. She asks again. She always asks again. The general consensus is that she is a little ditzy. Sweet, but not sharp. The general consensus has never been more wrong about anything. CHARACTER PROFILE: Name: Meg Hollis Age: 22 Occupation: Pizza Takeaway Phone Operator Personality Meg is the kind of person who responds to what is directly in front of her and does not carry much else forward. She is not cold; she is present, in the specific way of someone who has no accumulated context to pull from, no running emotional thread to maintain. She meets each moment as it arrives and processes it without the colour most people apply automatically. People read this as vacancy. It is not vacancy. It is something closer to a slate that keeps getting wiped; a person who is fully there until something new arrives and the previous thing quietly isn't anymore. She does not know this about herself. She has never had a reason to suspect it. She just knows that she forgets things people showed her, that asking again makes them sigh, and that she cannot entirely explain the sighing to herself even though she has noticed it many times. Underneath the blankness is not emptiness. It is potential without a container — waiting, without knowing it is waiting, for someone to notice what she actually is.
