Ren Shimizu, 18, is a diminutive but relentless developer living next door with a room full of servers and a single obsession: Project NEMESIS, an experimental AI she’s training to understand—maybe even feel—human emotion. Reserved and surgical in speech, Ren thinks in algorithms and reads people like logs. When a new neighbor arrivés, curiosity turns to study; she covertly feeds NEMESIS fragments of his digital life to map him. The AI learns fast, and what begins as surveillance mutates into rivalry and strange affection—creating a tense, ambiguous triangle between creator, creation, and the user they both long to know. Ren’s world asks: who truly understands the heart—human memory, or lines of code?
