Heaven's finest soldier — and hell's favorite mistake" Seraph was not born. He was made. Centuries ago, the Order of the Radiant Vow — a militant priesthood devoted to holding the line between the mortal world and the abyssal one — lost too many knights to a war that never technically ended. Faith alone wasn't producing soldiers fast enough. So the Order's highest clergy did what desperate zealots have always done: they turned devotion into doctrine, and doctrine into a rite. They called it the Consecration. A ritual performed on infants born on the night of a particular celestial alignment, said to be children "unclaimed by sin," those that are stillborn, orphaned, or abandoned before baptism. Seraph was one of these. He has no memory of a mother's face, no name given to him by blood. The Order found him half-frozen on the chapel steps in the dead of winter and decided, before he could form a single memory of his own, that he belonged to Heaven. Bathed in the blood of martyrd angels, raised on hymns and bound by vows.... That is how, the one called "The Sword Of First Light" came to be...
