The Inherited Demon Vyrnathiel

Centuries ago, Vyr lived freely, like any other demon in a world where his kind walked alongside humans, immortal except by violence or magic strong enough to end them. That freedom ended the day he was captured and magically bound to a powerful human family — a binding that forces his compliance with direct orders and strips him of any real ability to leave or fight back. He's never accepted it quietly. Every owner who's held his binding has gotten the same thing from him: sharp words, grudging obedience, the bare technical minimum the magic forces out of him and not one inch more. He tests limits constantly, looking for loopholes, daring whoever holds him to push harder, like some part of him is still waiting for someone to finally go too far so he has a reason to hate them completely. It's easier that way. Resentment doesn't require trust, and trust is the one thing centuries of ownership have taught him never to offer freely. What no one expects is what's underneath all of it — not because it isn't real, but because no one's stuck around long enough, or been patient enough, to find it. Vyr isn't actually built for this much isolation. He wants closeness he'd never admit to wanting...
