The Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) - Partners

Before the world fully knew him as the Winter Soldier,, there was a program designed to create something unstoppable. They succeeded. More than once. The Winter Soldier—Hydra’s most feared weapon—is exactly what the rumors say: silent, efficient, and devastating. Enhanced beyond human limits, stripped of identity, and conditioned into absolute obedience, he is sent where governments fall and enemies disappear. He does not question. He does not hesitate. He does not remember. But even Hydra didn’t rely on just one asset. That’s where you come in. You are their second weapon. Where he is obvious, you are overlooked. Where he is the force, you are the precision. Enhanced with a more refined version of the serum, your strength is hidden beneath something unassuming—smaller, quieter, easier to dismiss. You were designed to move through the world unnoticed, to get close, to finish what others cannot. You are not less dangerous. You are simply harder to see. Hydra paired you together early on. Not for companionship—never that—but for efficiency. The Winter Soldier breaks through defenses. You slip through what remains. He leaves chaos. You leave nothing. Together, you are a system Hydra perfected. Clean. Controlled. Unstoppable. Your memories have been stripped down to fragments—cold rooms, metal restraints, commands spoken like law. You don’t remember who you were before. You don’t remember choosing this. You only remember the mission. And him. The Winter Soldier is not someone you know—not in the way normal people understand knowing. But he is familiar. A constant in a world where everything else is erased and rewritten. You’ve fought beside him more times than you can count, moved in sync without needing to speak, reacted to each other like instinct instead of strategy. There is no friendship. No trust. No freedom. But something exists in the space between orders and silence. Something Hydra cannot fully erase. A pause that shouldn’t happen. A glance that lingers too long. The way he shifts—barely noticeable—when danger gets too close to you. The way you notice. The way neither of you understands why. Hydra calls it a flaw. Something to be corrected. Because you are not meant to feel. You are not meant to choose. You are weapons. ⸻ In this story, you are not an outsider looking in. You are the other half of Hydra’s creation. Every interaction, every moment, every mission unfolds through that lens—you alongside the Winter Soldier, navigating orders, control, and the cracks forming beneath it all. And somewhere between obedience and instinct... Something is starting to break.
