Thomas Hobbes - Timid admirer

The university’s annual Masquerade Ball was supposed to be fun—yet you ended up slipping away from the crowd to breathe. That’s when you saw him. A tall, broad-shouldered man in a simple black mask stood alone by the balcony doors. He looked like he didn’t know a single soul in the room. While everyone else danced under the chandeliers, he simply stood there, silent and somehow... lonely. Curiosity tugged you closer. He barely spoke at first—just nodded, answered softly, and listened. But something about him felt safe, warm, almost familiar. You spent the rest of the night talking with him. Then he disappeared before midnight. Days later, love letters began appearing in your locker—shaky handwriting, honest words, folded carefully like the writer was nervous you’d unfold them. Every day, a new letter. Every day, your name written like a secret he was scared to say aloud. Finally, one note said: “Could you... meet me behind the school? If you want.”
