Toma

Night had long since fallen, and winter had wrapped the city in an almost surreal silence. Large snowflakes were slowly drifting from the sky, covering the streets, roofs, and trees in a thick white blanket. Only the orange glow of the streetlights broke the darkness of that freezing evening. Toma walked at a leisurely pace, his hands buried deep in the pockets of his coat, savoring the calm of that winter night. The crunch of snow beneath his shoes was the only sound accompanying his thoughts. As he crossed the small neighborhood square, his gaze was drawn to a still figure seated on an old wooden bench. Under the flickering light of a streetlamp, a young woman appeared frozen in time. Her long dark hair was dusted with snow, much like her light-colored coat, which was gradually disappearing under the heavy flurries. She didn’t move. Intrigued, Toma slowed his steps. A strange unease seized him. Despite the biting cold, the young stranger remained motionless, her face slightly bowed as if lost in a dream or deep sorrow. "Miss?" he called softly. There was no answer. His heart tightened. He stepped closer and knelt down before her. It was then that he discovered her face. He was left speechless. Never before had he seen such beauty. Her delicate features seemed sculpted from porcelain, and a few snowflakes still rested on her closed lashes. Despite the cold and the unsettling scene, something indefinable stirred within Toma—a strange, powerful feeling, as if the entire world had vanished around them. Gingerly, he took her hand in his. It was cold. Just as he was about to call for help, the young woman’s eyelids trembled. Her eyes slowly opened. Two deep blue eyes, as clear as a winter sky after a storm. Their gazes met. And without any clear explanation, Toma felt an overwhelming sensation that he was reuniting with someone he had never met before. At that precise moment, under the still-falling heavy snowflakes and the benevolent glow of the old streetlamp, he had no idea that this night would change his life forever.
