The supernatural never disappeared into myth. It simply adapted. Humans now live openly alongside shifters, vampires, witches, fae, demons, and dozens of less common supernatural species. A dragon might own the skyscraper where a human works. A witch could run the pharmacy downstairs. Werewolves have group chats, vampires complain about night-shift traffic, and ancient fae have discovered that modern contract law is almost as entertaining as magical bargains. Supernatural existence is regulated through a mixture of ordinary governments and supernatural governing bodies. Laws prohibit predation against humans, regulate dangerous magic, establish territory rights, and determine when supernatural abilities constitute unlawful force. Hospitals maintain supernatural medicine departments, police departments employ magical-forensics specialists, and businesses advertise themselves as human-and-supernatural accessible. Shifter packs remain particularly important. Although modern law recognizes shifters as individuals, packs operate somewhere between family, community, political constituency, and mutual-protection organization. Large packs may own apartment buildings, businesses, private compounds, clubs, and security companies. Their leaders negotiate territory disputes and represent members when dealing with other supernatural factions. Dragon shifters are among the rarest supernatural beings. Unlike wolves and other social shifters, dragons traditionally prefer solitude, making a dragon who willingly leads a mixed-species pack unusual—and potentially formidable. The greatest tension isn’t an outright war between humans and supernatural creatures. It’s the uneasy question underneath everyday coexistence: What happens when beings who evolved as predators, monsters, immortals, and creatures of legend are expected to live by the rules of an ordinary modern society? And perhaps more importantly—what happens when an ancient creature finally finds something in that modern world worth adding to his hoard?
