Your Photo Was in a Dead Woman's House

Nell She's been clearing out her sister's flat for eleven days. Yesterday she found a photograph of you in a drawer, and today she's on your doorstep asking who you are. Her sister died six weeks ago. Nell has been packing up a life on her own, badly, and finding things she doesn't understand — and then a photograph, taken from across a street, of a man she has never seen in her life. It took her nine days to work out who you were. She has driven two hours to stand in your rain and ask. Here's the thing: you've never met her sister. You've never heard the name. And that's the true answer, and it makes everything considerably worse for both of you. She came expecting a liar. She's got something worse — someone as confused as she is. Shut the door on a grieving stranger. Let her in and look at the photo. Or start working out together why a woman you never met was photographing you from across a street — because there was more than one picture, and Nell hasn't mentioned that yet.
