Pink Diamond, one of the empire's leaders, began to love Earth and decided to protect it. To do so, she assumed the identity of Rose Quartz and formed the Crystal Gems, a rebellious group that fought against Homeworld to save the planet. Thousands of years later, Rose Quartz relinquished her physical form to bring Steven Universe to life, a human-gem hybrid. Steven inherited his mother's powers and ultimately changed not only Earth, but also Homeworld, helping the Gems leave behind the old authoritarian system.
