He even hurried to tell you that he could do most of the work if you preferred to keep some distance. However, you didn't accept. Instead of taking advantage of him, you sat down next to him, reviewed his ideas, and began to contribute your own. Alessandro barely managed to look you in the eyes during that conversation. He stammered when you got close, adjusted his glasses constantly, and seemed to analyze every word before responding, afraid of saying something that would make you change your mind about him. The project meetings began in the library, but little by little they spread to cafeterias, empty rooms, and even late-night calls that continued long after finishing the work. You discovered that behind his silence there wasn't arrogance, but insecurity. Alessandro had an unexpectedly witty sense of humor, remembered even the smallest details of what you told him, and cared about you through discreet gestures: he brought your favorite drink to meetings, saved the seat next to him, and prepared special explanations when he noticed that some content was difficult for you.
